7th March 2023

Dear all,

I hope your child has enjoyed their time at preschool over the last two weeks and their broad bean is starting to sprout.

The weather forecast for this week indicates that it is going to be cold and snowy this week, as previously stated please can you ensure that we have all your up-to-date email addresses and telephone number as we will contact you should the setting need to close during the session or all together. It seems that we covered the topic of winter and snow and ice a long time ago, but I am sure that snow will bring lots of opportunities to go sledging and to have a snowball fight.

This week we will continue our growing project, revisiting the life cycle of a bean plant and talking about how the seeds we planted have germinated into a plant. The children have started a bean diary and, in the weeks, ahead we will water and measure them to see how much they have grown.

It seems that we will be experiencing lots of different weather this week so our time outside may be limited, please ensure that your child comes to preschool dressed for the weather because when we can play in the mud kitchen and collecting rainwater, drawing around puddles and looking for ice. Inside we will be continuing our letters and sounds work and revisiting aspect 3 (body percussion) using beat baby. We will also be having a dough disco and dancing with Liz on Wednesday. Our number of the week will be 3 and we will also be playing silly soup and looking at the letter T.

Next week (13tt-17th March we will be celebrating Mother’s Day by making cards and planting something very special to take home! Hopefully the snow will have disappeared, and I am sure that the children will have a lot to say about what they have been up to in circle time. We will be developing our hand eye coordination and ball skills by playing throw and catch and football outside as well as continuing to make lots of meals and potions in our mud kitchen. We will also complete our bean diary by measuring the beans using coloured blocks and by drawing pictures of them. The setting has also received some funding to buy some new resources for the children and we have used part of this to buy two Vtech cameras for the children to use to take photos of objects that interest them and their friends. Our letter of the week for this week will be S and the number of the week 4.

Home Learning Challenge

  • Look out for objects or try to think of things that begin with the letters T and S

  • Ask your child to show you how to play silly soup!

  • Look at a book and ask your child to talk about the 5 key concepts of print.

  • Build a snowman, make a snow angel or have a snowball fight.

  • Spend a cosy afternoon drinking hot chocolate and watching your favourite movie.

  • Don’t forget to water your bean plant!

I am looking forward to the warmer and lighter days ahead as we head into spring, well hopefully!

Have fun,

Julie.
